the challenge

Okay, it's been decided:

I will now be challenging myself to only post photos that include: you guessed it, anything but black.

This will be the ultimate fashion challenge and will give this blog a unique edge :p

Let's see if this works out!

goals, goals, goals

Alright!

It's official, I have looked at enough blogs to have confidence in myself that I can make this blog decked out enough to get some followers! (even if they're just my friends)

And since I am writing this down as a post, it is a goal to myself I will follow through with!

But god-dammit I have so much homework!
soo...
I shall work on this over the summer.
And I understand it's okay to copy other people's ideas for styles
and of course, it's always okay to be myself :)
and I will finally complete a sewing class and get started on all the ideas running through my mind that I just react with a "well, who am I fooling? I can't do any of this, I don't know how to make anything." Even if I have the simple skills, I can make some sort of accessory, or edit my stuffed animals into backpacks (inspired by self-constructed freak, so thank you).

I can't wait to really work on this over the summer.

yeah. to no one. but yeah.

new points of views

It's interesting how tastes can change only in a matter of months. Now when I look at that army jacket outfit I picked out below, I practically cringe at the blandness of the color. I am so sick of seeing it hanging oversized on many of the freezing women on the streets of New York. Winter should call for more cheerful colored coats than this.

I am also tired of that short, black Dolce and Gabbana dress I picked out, for reasons more faithful to the title of this blog - I am so sick of black!! Despite the amount of black I own and often resort to buying, I still find it completely ordinary.

Now, for the main reason for this blog entry - sewing class. I started it today at FIT and have to say I am in HELL! How do people get used to this? Today was a neverending fight with the machine and I don't have much motivation to get used to it because it feels like hard labor to me. I dunno, I think I'm getting a taste of how fashion can only appear glamorous on the outside...

style chain mail

copied from the one and only: tavi gavinson.

What to do:
1. Choose runway pictures from ANY season you like and choose 3 outfits for Day, Evening & Party. ---- okay sorry im choosing 6 I can't decide!
2. Briefly explain why and state the name of the designer & which season the outfit is from.
3. Tag 3 other bloggers once you are done and let them know by posting a comment on their blog.

Since it's already almost 1 and I should be going to bed, I'm just going to pick looks from my lookbook.

Day: (since I previously described an outfit like this one)

Marc Jacobs - Spring 2010 RTW

but since it may be considered a tad short for your average "day look," sheer black tights underneath? or maybe pale silvery ones.

and

Anna Sui - Fall 2010 RTW

This totally reminds me of alice in wonderland. The innocent buckled black shoes + white tights. But that pop of blue is what really makes it for me. I love the necklace it gives the outfit the perfect mix of sparkle, fur (faux, we hope) , and soft fabrics.

Evening:

Valentino - Spring 2010 Couture

How comfortable, glamour, chic is this? Also, kind of obsessed with the light blue and pink accessories and how the color is just saying POW, I'M RED!

Excuse me? Hell yeah, I'll be wearing couture for evening wear.

and

Elie Saab - Fall 2010 Couture

No words. I'm lost in this. GRADUATION GOWN FROM GOUCHER WHAT WHAAAT.

And now for the party:

Dolce and Gabbana - Spring 2010 RTW

I keep imagining this with layers of necklaces but ones that wouldn't distract from the design of the dress. Perhaps both gold and silver necklaces with small trinkets (super girly like lips, ice cream cones, diamonds..) sprinkled amongst the chains.

Oh yeah, and I'm wearing bright pink shoes with this.

How to make Dolce look like Dillard's.

and so much for anything but black .

and, and, and...

Okay this one will have to wait. Trust me, I know you're all disappointed. aka me.

Obsessions

Just before I go to bed. After having canceled my voice lessons due to a killer sore throat, I've decided to write down the fashiony-ish things I am obsessed with:

1. tokyo (I love the mixes of patterns and creativity that it seems most Americans are too afraid to let out)
2. Also very asian, Hello Kitty, and therefore, bows that stick out of your head. but i like when they're more on the messy side. i also LOVE cats. And I am DYING for a pair of those hello kitty doc martens.
3. the hard vs. soft. i recently bought an army jacket from free people and am DYING to wear it with a tulle skirt. since i didn't want to overdue it too much, today i wore it with a plain pink shirt and this sparkly, flowered necklace I bought at forever 21 that looks so much more expensive :p
5. I LOVE Katy Perry's outfits. Or, rather, her stylist. I don't care how much of a "mainstream, follower, zombie" I sound like. I love how she mixes cute with sexy but especially those plasticy, colorful necklaces she wears and colorful dresses. i guess her style is somewhat of an inspiration for the title of my blog. I have one of those colorful "california gurl" posters hanging in my dorm and I love it.
6. Tulle. I think it is so much fun and one day I want to find a funky, big tulle dress and just spin around in it all day like a ballerina.
7. I feel like, so far, I am a failure at thrifting. Usually the things I have bought I end up not liking and realizing I only bought it for the discount price. Which at that point means I might as well have bought something more expensive that I love. I tend to do that more lately - buy things that I know I love, even if they cost more (if I can afford to, of course).
-ACCESSORIES! Those that know me know I own dozens of necklaces and am obsessed with them. I truly believe that you can't overdue it with accessories sometimes. Layered necklaces, thousands of bracelets, earrings and necklaces, whatever. It can all work.
-I'm also OBSESSED with Tim Gunn and this season of Project Runway.

That is all.

new beginning

Hi...me?

I'm very excited/nervous/confused/don't know what to think/too bored to think of anything else to do about this blog. I'm hoping it becomes a fashion blog and that overtime I can snaz it up like all the blogs I've admired overtime. Maybe also add some commentaries on life, randomness, etc. I'm also going to try to write like me and not copy other people, even though it's tough to not get influenced by others, especially TAVI!

Okay, where to start:

The title.

I decided the name, anything but black, because at first I was convinced I hated the color and am so bored in fashion of people seeing an all black outfit and hearing people respond favorably to it. Hello? It's boring. Sure, it's a safe, easy, choice, and practically every one of us looks good in it. But it tends to become too more of the same and...blah.

Then, I realized, that it may be too difficult to completely rule out one color, especially when I'm guilty of wearing it often.

So, I decided to make it more of a deep, underlying message. That in life, it's boring to be ordinary, be extroardinary. Be anything but black.

Now this all sounds swell but do I follow this advice? Probably not. But it sure sounds like a good idea.
